He was born August 20, 1922 in New York City, NY and was the son of the late Louise Eichiuger Rath.
Bill served as a Sergeant in the United States Army during WWII from 1942-1946. He served in combat in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge, Crossing the Rhine River, Liberation of Alsace and Ruhr Valley, Germany.
On October 19, 1957 he married the former, Corinne Agnes Kaufmann, who preceded him in death on February 12, 2015, after 58 years of marriage.
He was employed as the head promotions art director at the National Geographic Society in Washington, DC for 21 years.
He is survived by a son, Paul H. Rath and his wife, Nicole; four grandchildren, Andrew, Anna, Ava, and Addison.
Honoring his wishes, he will be cremated and interred at Culpeper National Cemetery on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 1:00 pm.
