Obituary of Gerald Eugene Myers, Sr.
Gerald Eugene Myers SR passed away March 20, 2019 after a lengthy illness. He was born 02/01/1931. He is survived by Julie Grandstaff, his loving companion and caregiver of 36 years. He leaves behind five children Pamela M. Myers, Gerald E. Myers JR, Melinda M. Lauer, Caroline M. McKenzie (husband Tom), Mark C. Myers, a sister Nancy M. Wright, five grandchildren Justin, Heather, Nina, Thomas and Matthew; Julie's son James M. Grandstaff (wife Beth and their daughter Elizabeth) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Lenora, father Luther, sisters Marie M. Reisenberg, Dorothy M. Frazier, Eunice M. Dean, Geneva M. Craun, Thelma M. Craun and brothers Russell Myers and Raeburn (Date) Myers. Gerald is also survived lastly by his beloved border collie Misty Myers, who was his farmhand and constant, loyal companion. Gerald was a US Air Force and Korean War Veteran. He attended Madison College. Mr. Myers was in the automobile business for over 40 years, he owned and operated Myers Auto Exchange where he was known for having the 'sharpest vehicles in town'! He also was involved in many aspects of business in his 88 years which included the startup of Black Diamond Savings Bank where he served on the Board of Directors. Gerald was real estate investor/developer who helped many get their start in building and business. His love of farming started an early age, while in the first grade his teacher asked what he wanted to be when he grew up, he replied, "I want to be a farmer and I want to raise cats"! Mr. Myers lived a simple, somewhat frugal lifestyle and absolutely loved helping others! He was a member of the Harrisonburg Lions Club and a dedicated, active member of Mill Creek Church of the Brethren where he was a deacon for many years. Gerald will always be remembered for his infectious smile, his love of the Lord, Family and Friends. His final hope was "take me home country roads". Visitation will be at Mill Creek Church of the Brethren on 03/27/2019 at 6:00pm- 8:00pm. A Memorial Service will be held 03/28/2019 at Mill Creek Church of the Brethren at 11:00am with a reception immediately following.
