
He was born January 1932 in Harrisonburg. After graduating from Harrisonburg High School (class of 1950) he enlisted in the Army. He served in the Korean War from 1951 to 1954. After his discharge he enrolled at Virginia Tech where he studied Civil Engineering. He graduated with a B.S. degree in 1958. In 1963 he earned his Master’s in Civil Engineering from UVA. After graduating from Virginia Tech, he joined VDOT and worked for the Virginia Highway Research Council in Charlottesville VA. He was a Research Manager regarding concrete structures and retired in 1991. He also worked for Shockey Brothers in Winchester VA and Union Carbide in Tarrytown NY.
In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, building furniture, bowling and riding his motorcycle. He was avid fan of the Washington Redskins/Commanders, the Washington Nationals and all Virginia Tech sports.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Diana Hurt Brown and his parents, Flora Whitmire & Frank Munn Brown, Jr.
He is survived by his three daughters, Monica Rader of Chester, VA, Melinda Sites and her husband, Brent, of Troy, VA, and Melissa Brown of Chester, VA: one grandson, Josh Sites of Pittsburg, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VMRC Good Samaritan Fund.
