Helen Redner Simmons

She was born in Augusta County on March 16, 1918 and was the daughter of the late Clarence W. and Lena Maude Williams Redner.

Helen graduated from North River High School and Rockingham Memorial School of Nursing in 1940. She was employed at Doctors Hospital in Washington DC prior to her employment at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, where she worked for 30 years before retiring. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Ladies Bible Class.

On June 22, 1941 she married Thomas C. Simmons, who preceded her in death on February 22, 1994.

She is survived by one daughter, Beverly S. Miller of Harrisonburg; two sisters, Jean Landram of New Hope and Beatrice Stover of Greensboro, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Judy L. Simmons, and two brothers, Carl and Donald Redner.

The family will receive friends 7-8:00 PM, Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg, with Dr. John F. Sloop officiating. Private burial will be held earlier at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
