

He was born November 10, 1928 and was the son of the late James E. Hoy, Sr. and Mary Dodd Hoy.
James was a lifelong resident of Harrisonburg. He attended Bridgewater College, Madison College and the State Police Academy. He was an Officer for Harrisonburg Police Department from 1959 until he retired in 1990. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, serving in the First Calvary Division in Korea and Japan.
He married Sandra Burkholder Hoy, who preceded him in death.
He was a member of Cooks Creek Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by two sons, James Edward Hoy, III and wife, Deborah of Culpeper, and Michael Burkholder Hoy, of Charlotte, NC; a granddaughter, Sylvie Louise Hoy; a sister, Lavon Hoy of Harrisonburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a sister, Matilda Keppel; a brother, Joseph Hoy; and a daughter, Holly Dodd Hoy.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 5, 2015 from 10:00 – 11:00 am at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Sonny Hinkle officiating.
Burial will be at Cooks Creek Cemetery.
