Jane McCoy Hoover

Jane was born on July 10, 1944, in Harrisonburg, VA and was the daughter of her late parents, Joseph L. McCoy and Janet Senger McCoy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph V. Puffenbarger, Jr.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Thomas W. Hoover, a son, Michael W. Hoover and wife, Elizabeth, four step grandchildren, Schuyler, Lorelei, Pippa, Aurelia, and granddaughter, Maezie Jane Hoover, brother, Joseph L. McCoy, Jr. and wife, Paula, niece, Autumn Lynn McCoy Garvey and husband, Jason. Also 1st Cousin Kenneth Senger, Matthew and Mark. Brother-in-law, Gary Hoover, Sister in laws, Jane Garrett, Eleanor Tusing and husband, Don and many other nieces and nephews. She was compassionate about her family who she loved dearly.

Jane graduated from Harrisonburg High School in 1962. She worked at Leggett Department Store while in school then worked at Long Oil Company until she married Tom in 1965 and moved to Northern Virginia. She worked in the administrative field during her career with TRW, Inc. in Washington, DDC, R.J. Reynolds/Nabisco in Herndon, VA and also had a successful business as a Longaberger Consultant. Jane retired in 2001 and moved back to Harrisonburg with her husband. She worked at Hallmark and for the City of Harrisonburg Tourism and Visitor Services, retiring after 12 years. Jane was a volunteer at Sentara RMH Medical Center for a number of years and loved working with the people and helping patients there.

Jane was crowned Miss Rockingham County in 1960. Her enjoyment during her younger years was baton and she received many twirling honors in the State of Virginia. She was a member of Sports Car Club of America and she and her husband enjoyed traveling to racetracks all over the country working as a flag person. She loved the challenge and making new friends. She was a member of Battlefield Baptist Church in New Baltimore, VA where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. She was a dedicated member there and loved singing in the choir and opened her house up to Missionaries when visiting. Jane was past Worthy Matron of Shenandoah Valley Chapter #76 Order of Eastern Star with over 55 years of service. She was a member of Victory Fellowship Church, Dayton, VA and sang in the choir.

She was a fun loving, kind, creative soul who loved her family and her golden retriever Haley. Photography was one of her favorite past times, loving the beauty of nature and expressing it by sharing through cards to friends and family. She loved scrapbooking memories, traveling, cruising and enjoyed flower arranging. She had a good eye for color/decorating and loved expressing it in her home.
