She was born on February 23, 1938, in Harrisonburg, to Russell and Lottie (Dean) Hottinger; she retired from Owens Brockway after 46 years.
Surviving Margaret are her children, Vickie Lynn Hensley and husband, Christopher Shawn of Grottoes, Cindy Berry and husband, Clyde, of Harrisonburg, Karen White of Troutville.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Horace T. Smith; a grandson, T. J. Cave and daughter, Sheila Baker preceded her in death.
Services will be held privately.
