Margie Lorue (Hicks) Marafino
December 23, 1924 – December 8, 2022
Margie is survived by three sons, Andrew, John, and Peter, two daughters, Margaret and Norma, nine grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Marafino Sr., son and daughter-in-law Victor and Judy Marafino, parents H. Frank and Norma Hicks, and two brothers Frank Jr. and J.D.
Margie was born in Alabama and attended Emma Sansom High School in Gadsden, Alabama. After graduating she worked for the FBI in Washington, DC, where she met her future husband, Andrew. As he departed for war, she joined the Nursing Cadet Corps. After the war, she attended nursing school at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, where she received her R.N. credentials. In 1949, Andrew and Margie married in RI, where she began her 44-year nursing career at Roger Williams Medical Center. During this time, Margie earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing at Rhode Island College, while working full time and raising six children. She retired in 1993 as a nursing administrator and relocated to Harrisonburg, VA in 2000. Besides nursing, Margie loved traveling, dancing, reading, and spending time with her family. She will be missed by all.
