Marjorie Wynn Riner

A memorial service for family and close friends will be held in Lantz Chapel at the Bridgewater Retirement Community on Monday April 21, 2014 at 10:00am with Rev. Debra Huffman officiating.

Marjorie was born in Roanoke, VA in June 23, 1923. She married Glendon Hollis Riner in 1939 in Fayetteville, WV. She worked in the education system for many years and for Southern States, both in West Virginia. She was proud to have worked side-by-side with both her husband and sons on the family’s dairy farm, and could often be found driving the milk delivery truck so that her sons could deliver milk to customers.

After retirement, Marjorie and Glendon moved to Harrisonburg in the early 90s to be closer to sons Gary and Bill and grandchildren John, Meg, Paul, and Carter. She enjoyed attending the many activities of her grandchildren, and sang in the choir at Montezuma Church of the Brethren. After a brief return to her hometown of Roanoke after Glendon’s death, Marjorie returned to live at the Bridgewater Retirement Community.

Marjorie is survived by her son, William Riner, of Harrisonburg; sisters: Edna of Treasure Island, FL and Doris of Roanoke; grandchildren: John Riner and family of Harrisonburg, Meg Oncken and husband Frank of Norfolk, Paul Riner and family of Harrisonburg, and Carter Riner and family of Woodstock.

Marjorie was preceded in death by husband Glendon of Fayetteville, WV; sons Gary of Harrisonburg and Stephen of Fayetteville, WV; and brothers Billy and Malcolm Wynn.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Bridgewater Retirement Community and all of the staff who provided such wonderful care. Marjorie enjoyed her time there immensely and commented regularly on the wonderful care she received from so many dedicated staff over many years.
