Martha Ford Hounchell

Martha Ford Hounchell, died on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at the age of 102, at the Bridgewater Retirement Community, in Bridgewater, Virginia. She was born on May 24, 1918 in Alabama to the late Paul and Mary Bennett Ford Hounchell. Miss Hounchell moved in the fall of 1936 with her family to Harrisonburg where she graduated from Harrisonburg High School in 1937 and from Madison College (now James Madison University) with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. In 1951, she took a position as Administrative Secretary with the Richmond Public Schools in Richmond, Virginia where she worked for 34 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia. Martha loved to travel and was honored to tour many foreign countries as well as most of the United States. She is survived by a nephew, Paul VonHuben, of Englewood, Colorado and was preceded in death by her only sister, Helen Hounchell VonHuben. She will be buried in Woodbine Cemetery in Harrisonburg, Virginia beside her parents and all services will be private.
