Mary was born on October 17, 1941, in Washington, D.C. and the daughter of the late Leonard and Anna Speakes. She was the sixth born in a family of seven.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Buzzy and Joe and sisters, Sissy and Katherine.
Mary was the owner and bookkeeper of Hussey’s Automotive in Bridgewater, a business she and her late ex-husband (Wayne Hussey) started together. Although divorced they remained close friends up until his passing. She would often be found sitting at the front counter talking with customers and friends. She never met a stranger and will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and great one-liners.
Spring was her favorite time of year because it meant she could get outside and into her flower gardens. She was an avid container flower gardener, filling her flower garden with whimsical planters, most filled with her favorite flower, petunias. When the weather cooled down, she loved attending antique shows, flea markets and browsing antique stores. Mary was a dog lover and there were always dogs in her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Pennie Boots (husband Stephen), her son, Robert “Dusty” Hussey; two granddaughters, Melissa Reedy and Faith Hussey; a step-grandson, Cody Gray (wife Maddie); three great-granddaughters, Amaya, Scarlet and Freya; one step-great grandson, Riker; her four-legged constant companions, Barbra Jean and Nadine; her brother, Alfred and sister, Nancy.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her compassionate caregivers and the incredible Hospice team taking care of her every need. They allowed our family to grant her wish to pass away at her home comfortably.
Per her wishes, after cremation her family will privately spread her ashes at an undisclosed location.
Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg is handling arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.lindseyfuneralhomes.com.
