She was born on August 1, 1954, in Baltimore, Maryland one of six children to the late Mario J. Mauro, Sr. and Regina I. Blackburn Mauro from whom she learned her love for sewing, art and cooking. They taught her to be nurturing, creative and the mindset to work hard.
She met the love of her life Chip at the age of fifteen. They celebrated 55 years together. She had one child that gave her five grandchildren and then gave her seven great-grandchildren. She has always been a beautiful soul who would make you smile or laugh at quick wit and sarcasm. She loved dancing, camping, spending time with friends and family, to just sitting down for an episode of Little House on the Prairie or the news ready to voice her opinion. She was an incredible woman, if incredible was ten times greater. She will be loved forever.
She is survived by her husband, Frederick W. Freas; daughter, Antionette R. Mauro; five grandchildren, Cassi Mauro, Miranda Currence, Eben Emerson, Sage Mauro and Wynter Mauro; and seven great-grandchildren, Jamal, Braelynn, Ember, Parker, Eben, Jr., Sadie and Ellianna.
Honoring her wishes, she will be cremated, and a Celebration of Life Service will be held, 11 am, Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
