She was born on November 1, 1922 in Rappahannock County, VA and was the daughter of the late George Dewey and Mary Elsie Dodson Jenkins.
Frances graduated from Culpeper High School and received her degree from Longwood College in Farmville, VA. She was a teacher in Delaware and New Jersey and also taught at Harrisonburg High School and Shenandoah County High School. Frances also was employed at Joseph Ney’s Clothing Store, Ney’s House of Fashion and Alfred Ney’s in Harrisonburg. She had integrity and was strong willed. She enjoyed caring for numerous cats throughout the years and also tutoring a Vietnamese family that moved to the valley many years ago.
She is survived by her companion of 46 years, Eddie Ney; two nieces, Frances Jenkins Dovel and husband, Olen, of Elkton, Barbara Jenkins Webster of Culpeper; a great-niece, Theresa G. Setti and husband, Garry; a great-nephew, Charles Gochenour, Jr. and wife, Tara; and a great-great-niece, Tiffany Gochenour.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Jean Webster Jenkins; sister-in-law, Mary Olean Jenkins; and her former husband, John Stewart.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of the Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with Rabbi Joe Blair officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow at Temple Beth El in Harrisonburg. Burial with graveside services will be in Washington Masonic Cemetery in Washington, VA on Monday, November 17, 2014 at 2:00 p.m.
