A daughter of the late Chester and Annie Mae Crouch Keel, she was born July 15, 1925 in Jackson’s Gap, Alabama.
On September 18, 1944, she married Rev. Curry W. Davis, who preceded her in death on December 30, 2011. Together, they served Presbyterian churches in Childersburg, Alabama, Charleston, West Virginia, Plant City, Hialeah and Coral Gables, Florida, and Summerville, Georgia. Nell loved music and enjoyed singing in the choir in all their churches. She volunteered enthusiastically wherever there was a need, particularly with children and youth. In order to be closer to some of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Nell and Curry moved to Harrisonburg in the spring of 2000 and became members of First Presbyterian Church where their son-in-law, Dr. John Sloop was pastor.
Mrs. Davis is preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Anna Rose Katherine Kelty, son-in-law, Rev. George Naze, her parents, six sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by three children, Dr. Curry W. Davis, Jr. and wife, Marcella, Franklin, KY; Gwen Sloop and husband, Dr. John Sloop, Harrisonburg, and Grace Naze, Lexington, KY; grandchildren, Kristen Ramsey and husband, Mike; Dave Sloop, and wife, Melissa, Kate Kelty, and husband, Chris, Vivian and Fletcher Davis and Keely Naze; 12 great-grandchildren, Rebekah, Sarah and Beth Ramsey, Sydney, Libby and Claire Sloop; John, Ben, Elijah, Jonah, Vivian Kelty and Anathea Chesley; numerous nieces and nephews.
