

A daughter of the late Jesse and Nannie Simons Dove, she was born on June 30, 1937 in Bergton, VA, and lived the majority of her life in Harrisonburg. She suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease for the past 20 years, and had lived in Fredericksburg for the past 7 years and was taken care of by her daughter and son-in-law.
Mrs. Cook and her husband owned and operated the C & C Diner, C & C Newstand and C & C Market; owned Ogretta’s Beauty Shop and LeCurl Beauty Shop and also worked at Howard Johnson’s. She was a volunteer at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, and owned several rental properties. Mrs. Cook was active in the First Church of the Nazarene while living here. She liked to hunt, go fishing, gardening, and enjoyed being outside by her pool.
On July 30, 1954, she married Cecil M. Cook who preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 1988.
She is survived by five children, Evelyn Elliott and husband, Tony, of Millboro, VA; Wanda Cook and husband, Jeff Fields, of Fredericksburg; Brenda Appel and husband, Marty, of Aiken, SC; Ronald Cook and wife, Debbie, Donald Cook and wife, Lyn, all of Harrisonburg; seven grandchildren, Cassie Ruby, Jessica Cook and Ryan Cook, Justin Appel, Jonathon Appel, Michael Cook and Nathan Cook; five great-grandchildren; Joshua Adams, Jered Adams, Jacob Adams, Alexis Palmer and Seth Ruby. She also leaves eight sisters, Barbara Wine, and Betty Jennings, both of Harrisonburg; Catherine Smallwood of Grottoes; Edith Hammond and Shirley Turner, both of Winchester; Beatrice Hall, of Stephens City; Agnes Martin of Bergton and Mildred Baum of Mt. Jackson; two brothers, Charles Dove of
Bergton and Jessie (J.R.) Dove of Front Royal, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Joe Adams and two sisters, Hazel See and Virginia Breighner.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Monday evening at the Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon from the Chapel of the Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with the Rev. Buddy Marston officiating. Burial will follow in the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
