Perry Tyrone Brown, Sr., 54, a resident of Grottoes, died at 7:45 Wednesday evening, April 21, 2010 at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center in Harrisonburg surrounded by family and friends.
The son of Pauline Carter Brown, and the late Eugene Brown, he was born on Nov. 1, 1955 in Harrisonburg where he lived his early life and graduated from Harrisonburg High School.
Mr. Brown had lived in Grottoes since 1990. He served in the Army for 12 years, was proudly serving in the National Guard # 266 military police company until his illness. He was a mail handler with the US Post Office in Charlottesville from Aug. 1993 until Dec. 2009 when he retired. He enjoyed his kids, family, friends and co-workers.
On Dec. 2, 1983 he married the former Fonda White who survives. To this union, are two sons, Perry T. Brown, Jr. and Shaquille L. Brown, both of Grottoes; three brothers, Eugene (Valda) Brown, of Penn Laird; Harry Brown and Kim Brown, both of Harrisonburg and a host of nieces, nephews and great nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving are his father and mother-in-law, William and Carolyn White, of Nicholasville, KY; a brother-in-law, Jasper (Jackie) White of Lexington, KY; and two sisters-in-law, Geetha (Gregory) Higgins, and Lana White, all of Nicholasville, KY.
Funeral services will be held at one o’clock Tuesday afternoon from the Chapel of the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home with Minister Tony Carter and Dr. C. E. Williams and officiating. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 1:00 Tuesday at the Funeral Home, prior to the services.
