Rethula "Ruth" Dodson Beery

Rethula “Ruth” Dodson Beery, 80, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away on Monday, August 23, 2010 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. She was born on February 24, 1930 in Rappahannock, VA, and was the daughter of the late Mae Anna Dodson. Ruth attended Washington High School in Rappahannock County but lived the majority of her life in the Harrisonburg area. She retired in March 1995 from Owens-Brockway after 25 years of service. She was also employed as a cashier with Red Front. She was a member of Linville United Methodist Church where she belonged to the Women’s Group, “Recycled Teenagers-Young at Heart, Love Does Not Grow Old”, and The Giggler’s- Dominoes Group. On October 17, 1947 she married Harry Early Beery, who preceded her in death on December 11, 1995. She is survived by five children, Donald Beery and Isaac “Jack” Beery both of Colorado, Ed Beery of Weyers Cave, Anna Cochran and Laura Walker of Front Royal; nine grandchildren, Michael and Chris Cochran, Chris Beery and Michelle Beery, Amanda Morrow, Erica Green, Emily Etter, Rachel and Jacob Walker; seven great-grandchildren, three sisters, Elizabeth Clatterbuck, Elinor Beverage, and Nancy Noakes, all of Front Royal. Ruth was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Courtney Cochran and a brother, Hillard Tharpe. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, August 27, 2010, at Linville United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Brian Posey and Jeremy Green officiating. A reception will follow the service. Interment will be private at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
