Obituary of Richard Lee Tysinger
Richard Lee Tysinger, 69, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. He was born on July 31, 1942 in Harrisonburg and is the son of Margaret Click Tysinger of Harrisonburg and the late Leonard Tysinger. Richard graduated from Harrisonburg High School and lived all of his life in the Harrisonburg community. After 30 years of service, he retired from the credit card department at Sun Trust Bank, formerly Crestar and United Virginia Bank. He also was a talent scout for the Boston Red Sox. Presently, he worked as a realtor with Shomo Realty, part time for Heritage Golf Course and Lindsey Funeral Homes. Richard was a lifelong member of Hose Co. #4, an active member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, where he served as usher, and Elks Lodge #450. For 47 years he was a member of Rockingham County Baseball League; and formerly active in the Harrisonburg Little League where he was a coach. He also refereed and umpired in numerous leagues. He was a lifelong baseball card collector, enjoyed golfing, his yard sales and annual pig roast. In addition to his mother, Richard is survived by two sons, Kevin Tysinger and wife, Mary Beth, Shawn Tysinger and wife, Rachel, all of Harrisonburg; a very special granddaughter, Sarah Grace Tysinger; a sister, Carolyn Landis and husband, Don; a brother, Bud Tysinger and wife, Kaye, all of Harrisonburg; a very special friend, Judy Ritchie of Harrisonburg; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. The family will receive friends 5-8:00 PM, Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Harrisonburg High School Auditorium, where there will be no viewing. Friends may view and sign the register book at Lindsey Funeral Home at other times. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Sunday, May 6, at Otterbein United Methodist Church with Rev. Glen Langston officiating. The casket will not be open at the church. Burial will follow at Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery near Montezuma.
