

She was born August 4, 1926 in Cherry Grove, WV, where she lived her early life and was the daughter of the late Nellie Dessa Lambert Chew.
As a teenager Sallie lived in Dayton where she attended Dayton High School prior to moving to Harrisonburg where she lived the majority of her life. She was hostess at the Rib and Sirloin Room at Belle Meade Restaurant and was the dining room manager at the Sheraton before retiring. Sallie was a member of the Sunrise Church of the Brethren where she was a greeter. She enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family and at age 88 was blessed to know and remember each family member’s name and birthday, including great-great-grandchildren.
On May 3, 1947 she married her husband, Robert Henry Brown, who preceded her in death on June 24, 1986.
She is survived by a son, Wayne L. Brown and wife, Polly, of Harrisonburg; four grandchildren, Wayne L. Brown, II and wife, Kristen, of Richmond, Tony L. Brown and wife, Shirley, Margaret Burruss and husband, Ernest, and Kevin L. Brown and wife, Billie, all of Harrisonburg; 15 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Emma Mae Bland of Riverton, WV; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Laymond, Randolph and Herman Bennett.
The family will receive friends 6-8:00 PM, Friday, March 27, 2015, at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Sunrise Church of the Brethren with Pastor Richard Wehrle and Dr. J. D. Glick officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
