A daughter of the late William Kaylor and Helen Irene Huffman Monger, she was born on July 31, 1946, in Harrisonburg.
Sandra graduated from Harrisonburg High School and further extended her education by graduating from Bridgewater College.
She spent her career as a librarian at the Rockingham-Harrisonburg Public Library, now Massanutten Regional Library, where she retired.
Sandra was a member of several organizations including the Quota Club from 1988-2020 and served as president 1995-1996. She also enjoyed many countless hours as a volunteer at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital gift shop, the Hose Company #4 Auxiliary and the Virginia State Firefighters Association Auxiliary.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol Shifflett Stickley, of Harrisonburg; one son, David Wayne Shifflett, of Harrisonburg; two grandchildren, Jordan Renee Stickley and Jacie Ryan Stickley; one great-grandchild, Kaydence Damari Short; three sisters, Susan Monger Shifflett, of Bridgewater, Shirley Monger Beale and sweetheart, Reid Wimer, of Virginia Beach, and Sunni Jean Monger, of Bridgewater Retirement Community; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews in the Monger and Shifflett families.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, R. S. and Lillye Kaylor Monger, maternal grandparents, Wade T. and Ruth Huffman; two brothers-in-law, Greg Beale and Rick Shifflett and one sister-in-law, Nancy S. Puffenbarger.
The family would like to give special thanks to Cathy Grogg, Tina Puffenbarger, Heidi Painter, Shirley Beale and Janice Lokey. Also, a special thanks to the Davita Peritoneal Dialysis staff, Dr. Waligora, Dr. Overby, Constance Wenger, Angie Jenkins and Tara Morrison.
The family will receive friends at the Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg on Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. The casket will be closed.
A private graveside will be held in Woodbine Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests reading a book and making a memorial contribution to the Massanutten Regional Library in her memory.
