Vera Starr Preston Green

Vera was born March 20, 1928; a daughter of the late Dr. H. Grant Preston and Vera Fritts Preston.

She earned her BA degree from Converse College in Spartanburg, SC and studied piano and organ at Julliard School of Music and Union Theological in New York and continued her training at Presbyterian Assembly Training School in Richmond.

She married Dr. Walter Franklin Green, III, on August 22, 1951 who survives.

She was a member of the Rockingham County Medical Auxiliary, Spotswood Garden Club, Daughters of American Revolution and Asbury United Methodist Church.

Also surviving are four children, son, Walter Franklin Green, IV and his wife, Judy, and their children, Arielle Margaret, Walter Franklin Green, V, Warren Henry and Alexa Maria; son, Preston Tabb Green and his wife, Hilary, and their two daughters, Hadleigh Elizabeth and Ansley Starr; daughter, Vera Starr Wilson and her husband, Gary, and their children, Christopher Paul and his wife Katie, and their children, Kinsley Starr and Noah Gray; Collin Preston and Julia Starr; and daughter, Elizabeth H. Green. Vera was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Edna Green.

A graveside service will be conducted on Monday, June 29, 2015 at 11:00 am at Woodbine Cemetery in Harrisonburg with Dr. E. Thomas Murphy, Jr. officiating.

The casket will be closed.

The family will receive friends at the residence anytime.
