Visitation will be held at Hill Crest Funeral Home, Highway 80 East, Haughton, Louisiana from 1:00 P.M. Friday, February 18, 2022 followed by services at 2:00 P.M. Interment will follow services at Boggs Cemetery in Plain Dealing, Louisiana.
Alpha was born in Long Beach, California on April 25, 1941. She grew up in Riverside, California and graduated from Poly Technic High School in June of 1958. She moved to Bossier City, Louisiana with her Air Force parents in 1959.
She graduated from LSUS with a Bachelor degree in education, Masters +30 in Reading Specialty. She taught First Grade at Sun City Elementary. She moved to Kissimmee, Florida and taught Third Grade at Highlands Elementary. She then moved back to Bossier City and finished her teaching career at Stockwell Elementary. At all three schools she taught at she was awarded teacher of the year.
Alpha loved tending to her flower gardens and raised many beautiful flowers and plants that she shared with friends. She was a member of the Benton Garden Club, Book Club, KKI, Retired Teacher Association and the Crawgator Dive Club. She loved to travel to Mexico, Europe and South America. She made many trips with her traveling buddy Mary McKellar Howard.
She Joins in Heaven her father, Woodrow Gebhart; mother, Mary McDonald; and step-father Mac McDonald.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 61 years, Homer Matlock; sons Kerry Matlock (Karen) of Plain Dealing, Louisiana and Gary Matlock (Donna) of Benton, Louisiana; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Garrett Matlock, Hunter Matlock, Josh Peters, Jason Peters, Michael Stewart, and Chad Seales.
