HAUGHTON, LOUISIANA - Alvis Ray Gay, 78, of Haughton, Louisiana, formerly of Hall Summit, Louisiana, completed his earthly journey on March 7, 2024, in Bossier City, Louisiana. He was born April 5,1945, in Coushatta, Louisiana.
Being brought up on a dirt road in the country, he learned to drive at a very young age, and he loved to drive anything with wheels on it all of his life. As a teenager, he and some of the other teenage boys used one of the black top roads in the community as their drag strip. There's no doubt, the prayers of his parents brought him through his teen years! Alvis was a very gifted mechanic and wasn't afraid to tackle anything with a motor. He worked for Bennett and Pinckley Wheel Alignment in Bossier City and then found he could work on drilling rigs, so for the biggest part of his life, he worked for Bradford Oilfield Equipment and Butler-Johnson that eventually became Drillers, Inc., then, Greywolf Drilling. After leaving the oilfield, he worked as a mechanic for ALSCO, Inc., formerly National Linen Service, and his last job was working as a hiker for Penske Truck Leasing. He loved his Kubota tractor and was content to stay on it all day bushhogging or whatever he could find to do with it.
He is survived by his wife of almost 33 years, Janice Kellogg Gay; his son, Kevin Ray Gay and wife, Sandy; sister, Nelda Sanders and husband, Gene; three grandchildren, Aaron Gay, Ashly Howard and husband, Clint, Allen Gay and wife, Stephany; five great-grandchildren, Rowan, Lillian and Millie Gay, Carter and Garrett Howard. He's also survived by two step-sons, Wayne and Kevin Antley; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, Woodrow and Agnes Gay; brother, Billy Gay; and sister, Dianne Alexander.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 12, 2024, 6:00 - 8:00 P.M., in the Chapel at Hillcrest Funeral Home in Haughton with funeral services on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at 2:00 P.M., at Central Assembly of God Church in Haughton, officiated by Rev.
