Preceding her in death were her parents and brother, Eduard Eich and wife Resi; and her husband of 61 years, Harold Gautney.
She came to America in 1950 and received her citizenship. In 1965, she became a Licensed Practical Nurse here in Shreveport for 35 years. In her last few years of nursing, she worked at St. Vincent’s Convent. She was a very good and caring nurse. In her free time she loved sewing, making crafts and planting flowers in order to give to others. For many years she enjoyed swimming and walking on the treadmill at Fitness Lady in Bossier where she was a member. Every few years she would go home to Munich to visit family and friends and to the beautiful Alps in Bavaria where she snow skied so often in her younger years. Her love for dancing would bring her back to the Oktober Fest every once in a while. These memories would always stay with her. Whether in the states, abroad, or in her own backyard, she was always a lady and loved by all.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Joe E. Smith and wife Judy; her daughter, Monika Wall and husband Jeff; her granddaughter, Tina Knight and husband Steve; her grandsons, Brian Smith and wife Betsy, and Jeffrey Wall; her great-granddaughters, Brittany Welch and husband Josh, and Kaylee Knight; her great-grandsons, Declan and Eli Smith; and one great-great-grandson, Corbin Welch.
We want to express our heartfelt appreciation to Willis Knighton Hospital North and Amedisys Hospice.
