

Services will be held to celebrate the life of Barry L. Welch, Sr., at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Hill Crest Chapel with Pastor Tommy Patton and Reverend Scott Adams officiating, along with dear friend Richard Mosher assisting. Inurnment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park, with USAF Honors. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am, prior to service.
Barry was born on July 24, 1946, in Sylacauga, AL. He entered the Air Force, June 2, 1966, and served 13 years as an administrative technician and 7 years as a legal services technician. His tours of duty included Otis AFB, Massachusetts, Mukdahan, Thailand, England AFB, LA, the Pentagon in Washington DC, Guam, Keesler AFB, Mississippi, and Barksdale AFB, where he retired on February 29, 1988, as the law office manager at the grade of senior master sergeant. He received many awards throughout his career. Subsequent to his military career, Barry worked for the Department of Housing and Urban Development as an administrative clerk and then for the judicial branch of the Social Security Administration as a paralegal, where he retired on July 31, 2008.
Barry loved the outdoors. His first and foremost love was deer hunting and spending time outdoors. He also loved to fish throughout his military career and beyond.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Oakley and Missouri Ann Welch; and nephew, Jody Christopher Welch.
Barry is survived by his loving wife of almost 40 years, Kathy, son, Barry, Jr., of Leesburg Virginia and wife Carrie; Brother, Danny O’Neil Welch, Sr., and wife Mary of Bannockburn, Illinois; nephew, Danny Welch, Jr., and wife Peg; nieces, Regina Hartley and husband, Jason of Douglasville, Georgia and Marcia Martin of Oakwood, Georgia; and great niece, Brianna Welch, and great nephew, Danny O’Welch III.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ted Warren, his family doctor of many years and his neurology practitioner, Wendy Taylor for their loving care and compassion.
