Retired 1st Sgt. Belmont Neal Magill, Jr. passed away in the wonderful care of nurses and doctors at the VA Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana on Monday, August 3rd, 2015. He was surrounded by his family who were by his side as he struggled with sickness over the past two weeks. He fought until the very end. He is proceeded in death by his mother and father, Maudell and Belmont Magill, as well as two of his sisters, April Foster and Beverly Magill. Sadly he is also proceeded in death by his oldest child, his daughter Robbietta Lynn Jones. He is survived by his Wife, Robbietta Krichick Magill, and four children, Belmont Neal Magill III, Michael Emerson Magill, Rachael Lee Boyd, and Robert Bradley Magill. He is survived by four siblings as well, Sue Ann Jacks, David Magill, Cissi Lewandowski, and Bobby Magill. He is also survived by ten grand children, 3 great-grand children.
Belmont served in the US Army as a Senior Supply Sergeant for 12 years and a MP for a total 27 years. He was a part of the 75th Combat Support Battalion which was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky and he also served in Vietnam, Thailand, Germany, and Korea. He was very well liked by all who knew him in the service, and also met his wife Robbie while serving at Fort Richie, Maryland. Lets just say, his military years were some of the best years of his life; he always enjoyed telling stories of those years to his children and friends as he grew older.
Belmont was not only a military man, but also a wonderful family man and father. He enjoyed spending time with his family camping, going on road trips to Mammoth cave, seeing his extended family, cooking, putting his babies to bed, and rubbing his wife's feet.
Belmont loved to barbeque for his friends, watch football games for LSU, and drink lots, and lots, and lots of Dr. Pepper; if anyone knew Belmont, they knew he bled Dr. Pepper! He also loved to talk politics and he read all the time, westerns mostly. but he also loved the book, Leaves of Gold.
As he grew older and his COPD, emphysema, and CHF made it increasingly hard for Belmont to get out of the house. He enjoyed using the computer for comfort and convenience of listening to his favorite tunes and to reconnect with family school-friends, military-buddies, and old acquaintances by using Facebook. He loved Facebook and posting funny, political, religious, and very sweet things to his wall and his friend's wall. It gave him comfort to be reconnected to a world in which he felt he was missing out of because he was still so full of life and joy, even though his body was holding him back.
Belmont was quick to make you laugh, gentle enough to cry with you, and smart enough to make a list of all those who owe him money, so watch out! He will be truly missed by all who knew him and got to be apart of such a beautiful man's life.
The family would like to thank the staff at WK Bossier, Especially Dr. Ralla, his nurses in the ICU there and especially Sara Beth and Tiffany in the SICU; they would also like to thank the staff at the VA MEDICAL CENTER in Shreveport for showing kindness and understanding in such a terrible time of sadness, especially Belmont's nurses in the SICU: Les, Danny, Josh, and Andrew... you will never know how much your respect and care for Belmont was and still is truly appreciated.
The family will have visitation on Friday, August 7th from 6-8pm and the funeral will be Saturday, August 8th at 2pm. Both services will be at Hill Crest Memorial Park and Funeral Home: 601 US Highway 80 East, Haughton, LA 71037. If you would like to leave flowers or anything else, please call: 318-949-9415.
