battling respiratory distress and other illnesses for several years. Services for Carol will be held
at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel. Officiating will be
Brother Tommy Patton of Cypress Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial
Park Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m. prior to services.
Betty “Carol” Maddox was born on September 8, 1944 in Tyler, Texas to Griffin Walter and Betty
Irene Holtzclaw. She has been a resident of Bossier City, LA for the last 46 years. Carol’s
talents were many. She was an extremely accomplished artist who won many awards at the
local, state, and regional level, a teacher of crafts and an avid reader of books. She was a
beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who truly enjoyed spending time with her family
and adored her grandchildren.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Jimmy L Maddox of 40 years;
sisters, Jerry and Gloria; and brother, Griffin.
Left to cherish Carol’s memory are her children, Shannon Maddox Backofen and her husband
Mike, Michael Shea Maddox and his wife Laura Lee, and Stephanie Rhea Guest and her
husband Judd; grandchildren, Brandon Stader and his wife Jessica, Lauren Maddox, Kyle
Backofen and his wife Claire, and Megan Backofen and her fiancé Noah Jones;
great-grandchildren Michael, Korbin and Ravyn Stader; sister, Bonnie Smith; brother Glenn
Holtzclaw; and special friend Ernie Migues.
Pallbearers for Carol will be Kyle Backofen, Noah Jones, Mike Backofen, Judd Guest, and
Brandon Stader. Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Holtzclaw, Ernie Migues, and Nick Divietro.
The family wishes to thank the many doctors and nurses that have cared for Carol over the past
years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Heart
Association or a charity of your choice in her honor.
