Betty Mae Sanders Harris

Betty was born on June 30,1947 at Bossier Medical Center in Bossier City and was the first born to Ruth Bernice Sanders and William Frank Sanders. Betty was a devoted daughter, often helping her parents in the garden, and keeping an eye on her younger siblings, William “Bones” Sanders, Edward Sanders, and Beverly Treadway.

Betty attended Bossier High School and met Richard Harris of Lemont, IL while Richard was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base. They quickly recognized their love was true, and on September 26, 1964, they married in Texarkana, TX. Richard and Betty began their lives together in Illinois where they were blessed with their first two children, Shawn and Cody. Together they decided to move back to Bossier City and eventually settled in Blanchard, LA where they were blessed with their two youngest children, Jason and Sarah.

Aside from caring for her children, Betty enjoyed raising and caring for show dogs while attending dog shows and events. Betty spent her later years as a Veterinarian Assistant and grooming dogs. After 25 years, Betty retired to focus on family and her grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her husband, Richard; her three children, Shawn, Cody, and Sarah, and their spouses, Mathew, Mayumi, and Bryson; seven grandchildren, Allegra, Jasmine, Akira, Hiroto, Riley, Brody, and Casey; and four great grandchildren, Treyson, Jordan, Logan, and Maison. She will be laid to rest at Hill Crest Memorial Park in Haughton, LA with her parents, William and Ruth, her son, Jason, brother, Edward, and sister, Beverly.

A visitation for Betty will be held Friday, April 4, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, 601 Highway 80 East, Haughton, Louisiana 71037, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.
