BOSSIER CITY, LA – Graveside services to celebrate the life of Betty Jo Mims, 85, will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 10, 2015, at Hill Crest Memorial Park, officiated by Danny Bob Turner. Visitation will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to the graveside service.
Betty was born September 15, 1930 in Birmingham, Alabama and passed away on October 8, 2015. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She stayed busy as a mother of two and the wife of an Airforce Pilot as well as the volunteer work she did in Air Force Hospitals at various bases. Betty was involved in numerous volunteer services. She was a certified aerobics instructor who led floor exercise programs and water exercise class at Mike Woods Swimming Pool as well as maintaining an active role with Mother’s Club and Woman’s Auxiliary of Gideon’s International and will be missed by the many lives she touched. Known as “Mammaw” to everyone, she lived her life for her Lord Jesus Christ which was obvious to everyone who met her. She was a faithful member of First Baptist of Bossier and took joy in attending services as well as Danny Bob Turner’s Sunday School class.
She is preceded in death by her beloved son, Jimmy; sister, Ruby Lee Blackwell; brother, Frank Mann; parents, and parents-in-love. Left to cherish Betty’s memory is her husband, O. Fred Mims; daughter, Linda Mims Phipps and husband Billy; grandchildren, Jason Pope and wife Caryn, Erin Phipps, Lisa Phipps, Amy Phipps and Kirk Hidalgo; great-grandchildren, Emma Rae Phipps, Ranger Ty Pope, and Levi Tatum Hidalgo; nephews, Terry Mann and Bobby Mann; niece, Pat Blackwell Dixon; and her loyal dogs, Ruby Lee and Bandit.
Honoring Betty as pallbearers are Jason Pope, Billy R. Phipps, Jim Perdue, Ronnie Coker, Jimmy Boyd, and Kirk Hidalgo.
The family would to extend a special thanks to Betty and Jim Perdue, Thony David, Billie Hildalgo, BCFD, and WKB.
