Bobby Lynn Bennett, age 80, of Shreveport, Louisiana, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, just 38 minutes before his 81st birthday. While his passing came far too soon for those who loved him, his life was filled with unforgettable memories, remarkable accomplishments, laughter, and, above all, an extraordinary love for his family.Bobby was born on October 7, 1945, in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana. He was the oldest of six children. He grew up near Lake Bistineau and attended school in Elm Grove before graduating from Bossier High School in 1963.
Following graduation, Bobby proudly joined the United States Army. During his military career, he achieved the rank of Sergeant while serving with the distinguished 2nd Armored Division, famously known as “Hell on Wheels,” at Fort Hood, Texas. His service included Operation Big Lift in 1963, and his military duties took him across the world, including a station assignment in Germany. He later served at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and eventually in St. Louis, Missouri, where he received his honorable discharge. In recognition of his dedication and outstanding service, Bobby was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the Expert Rifle Award. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army.
In 1972, Bobby met the love of his life, Deborah. They married on April 5, 1979 and moved to Vivian, Louisiana, before eventually settling in Shreveport.
Bobby was a man of many talents, and anyone who knew him knew that when he set his mind to something, he was determined to be the very best. Whether he was bowling, golfing, fishing, or hunting, Bobby gave everything he did his all.
In 1982, he earned the prestigious title of Golf Club Champion at Monterey Country Club in Vivian, Louisiana, an accomplishment that also earned him a share of ownership in the club. His passion and talent for both bowling and golf led him to travel and compete professionally throughout Louisiana and Oklahoma.
Of all his hobbies, hunting held a particularly special place in Bobby’s heart. He was an avid outdoorsman who supported numerous local hunting banquets and auctions throughout his life. One of his proudest accomplishments was holding a Louisiana State record for his prized mounted deer head. But for Bobby, hunting was about so much more than the trophies. It was about the stories, the friendships, the early mornings, and the memories made along the way. Whether he was squirrel hunting, rabbit hunting, deer hunting, bow hunting or taking his grandsons duck hunting at Grand Bayou, those moments were among his greatest joys.
Bobby dedicated 30 years of his life as a Maintenance Superintendent, working for Calhoun Properties, MAC-RAE, and later TAC-RAE, from which he retired a few years ago.
He was known for his strong work ethic, his ability to fix just about anything, and his determination to do every job right.
But beyond his many accomplishments, Bobby will be remembered most for the man he was. He never met a stranger, always had a quick-witted joke ready, and could bring a smile to anyone’s face. He loved his friends deeply, treasured the relationships he built throughout his lifetime, and had a way of making everyone around him feel special.
In March 2026, Bobby experienced one of the greatest heartbreaks of his life when he lost his wife, Debbie, to brain cancer. Her passing left an emptiness in his heart that words could never describe. Although devastated by the loss of his lifelong companion, Bobby continued to face each day with strength and determination for the sake of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His family was his world. To his family, he was so much more than a father, grandfather, or great-grandfather. He was their protector, their biggest supporter, their storyteller, their source of laughter, and their very best friend. His love was unconditional, his loyalty unwavering, and his presence irreplaceable.
Bobby was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Deborah “Debbie” Bennett of Shreveport, Louisiana; his mother, Jewell Procell Chadwick and step father Leo Chadwick of Elm Grove, Louisiana; and his father, Earl Calvin Bennett Sr., of Elm Grove, Louisiana.
He leaves behind a family who will forever cherish his memory, including his daughter, Kellie Davis and husband William, of Stonewall, Louisiana; and his son, Chris Reneau, of Santa Maria, California. His beloved grandchildren include Meagen Foust and fiancé Logan Ellis of Marshall, Texas; Logan Foust and wife Rylie of Marshall, Texas; Landen Foust and Ayden Mourad of Stonewall, Louisiana. His precious great-grandchildren include Emory King, Kasen King, Mayvri Ellis, and his newest great grand baby Easton Atlas Foust, all of Marshall, Texas. Bobby also leaves behind his faithful little companion, Max, the beloved Yorkie he and Debbie shared, who brought them both so much joy.
Bobby’s family would also like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Tommy Frye for his many years of loyal friendship. Your kindness, friendship, and the memories you shared with Bobby will always be remembered and deeply appreciated.
