Carl Edmond Tompkins, born August 28, 1944, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, November 9, 2017 after a lengthy illness. Services for Mr. Tompkins will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home chapel at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until service time. Internment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park. Honoring Mr. Tompkins as pallbearers will be Robert Lafiette, Jeff Betts, Gary Shelton, William Moore, Andrew Betts, and Steve Miller.
Mr. Tompkins was preceded in death by his grandparents Edmond Buckley Tompkins and Alma Recoulley Tompkins of West Monroe and Thomas Jackson Lann and wife Minnie Taylor Lann of Ruston. Also preceding him in death was his father Edmond Buckley Tompkins, Jr. and mother Marie Lann Tompkins of West Monroe.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Linda Carol Tompkins of Shreveport; son Edmond Buckley Tompkins III, wife Chrystal Brister Tompkins, and grandchildren Matthew Edmond Tompkins and Lauren Elizabeth Tompkins of Haughton; daughter Heather Tompkins Blanton, husband Robert L. Blanton, and grandchildren Robert London Blanton and Raleigh Lynn Blanton of Canton, Georgia.
Carl leaves behind sisters Linda Tompkins Lafiette of West Monroe and Patricia Tompkins Beall of Cocoa, Florida; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Carl joined the Navy reserve while still in high school, served in Vietnam and circumnavigated the glove on the USS Manley. Carl had a full and varied professional career spanning 40 years. Most of his working life was spent in private distribution services and another part was in public civil service. Carl retired in 2006 to devote time to his family and farm.
Always a Christian and loving of Christ, his favorite Bible verse was Ephesians 2:8-9. "For by grace are ye saved through faith,; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God; not of works, least any man should boast."
His first charity was and always will be the Louisiana Baptist Children's home in Monroe which he started making donations to while in college.
He was a member of North Shreve Baptist Church and a member of Gideons International Bossier Camp.
