Charles Otis Everton, Jr., affectionately known as Chuck, Chief, Dad, or Papa, was born on January 20, 1943, in Columbia, NC, to Lola (Combs) and Charles O. Everton, Sr. He peacefully departed this life on January 2, 2024.
Chuck played diverse roles in his lifetime – a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, Chief, friend, neighbor, and a kind stranger to all he met. His selfless, giving nature and his unwavering love for his wife were truly inspiring and most memorable.
A proud veteran, Chuck served the United States Air Force for 33 years, attaining the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. His service in the military medical field, particularly as a pharmacy superintendent, showcased his leadership, dignity, honor, and humility. He approached this role with meticulous attention to detail, a drive to improve systems, and a dedication to uplift those around him. Post-retirement from the military, he continued his legacy as a pharmacy superintendent at Louisiana State University Hospital for over two decades. His strong work ethic continued, and his infectious ability to connect with anyone meant that his grace, compassion, and selflessness left an enduring impact in his workplaces.
Chuck's commitment to excellence was evident not only in his career, but also in every aspect of his life - marked by his willingness to “see a need, meet a need.” His proactive initiative was cherished by many, as he seemingly made new friends wherever he went. His legacy serves as a reminder that true leadership extends beyond accomplishments and ranks – it lies in the genuine care for the well-being of others and the willingness to step forward when help is needed.
