I had the opportunity to know Charles for many years. He was a great friend and person to be around. He will be greatly missed. Prayers for Brenda and family.

Prayers and condolences.    He had a big heart for Veterans and was a Veteran, a VA volunteer, and  Chaplain of American Legion Post 202 in Benton.    We are grateful for his service.  I am grateful for Brenna adding to his later quality of life.

There are very few people who come into your life and truly change its direction. For me, Charles Gholson was one of those people.

Fifteen years ago, as a young man just beginning my career in the funeral profession, Charles took me under his wing. He mentored me almost daily, challenged me, and held me to a standard that was often higher than the one I had for myself. He was tough on me, but every lesson came from a place of wanting me to become the very best I could be. Looking back, I can honestly say I would not be where I am today without his guidance, leadership, and belief in me.

What made Charles so special wasn’t just what he knew about the funeral profession, it was how  he cared so much about the families he served. I had the privilege of watching him on countless occasions put families before everything else. He served from his heart, and he taught those around him to do the same. His legacy isn’t just the funeral homes he helped build at Hill Crest and Centuries; it’s the countless lives he impacted by teaching others what true service looks like.

I will never forget the years he invested in me or the life lessons he taught me. Those lessons continue to shape the way I serve families and lead others today.

I’am  deeply saddened to hear of Charles’ passing. The funeral profession has lost one of its finest, but his influence will continue to live on through me and the many people he mentored and the families whose lives he touched.

One of Charles’ favorite sayings is something I have carried with me throughout my career, and I can still hear him saying it:

“It’s always better to be kind than it is to be right.”

Thank you, Charles, for believing in me, for pushing me to always be my best and for showing me what it truly means to serve others. You will never be forgotten.

We will miss Charles. He was a wonderful supporter of the Bossier Sheriff’s Dept. Escort Team. I remember the last time we saw him was at our Annual Fish Fry. He wanted to look at all the flowers in our yard. He will be greatly missed.
