HAUGHTON, LA – Celebration of life service for Charles W. Nelson, 82, will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel on Monday, June 25, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Randy Harper officiating. Burial will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Charles was born on February 12, 1930 in Houston, TX. He was a longtime member of Bellaire Baptist Church. His many accomplishments included being a quarter horse trainer, a cable splicer for South Central Bell, a boxing partner with Marvin Jones, and the vice president of the Webster Wildlife and Sportsmen’s Club. He was also the inventor of the Flower Bulb Digger, Climbing Deer Stand, and Decoy Duck Wings. Some of his other interests were roller skating, hunting, swimming and diving as well as being a preacher. And most of all, a Christian father, friend, and brother who was known to some as a “Simple Genius”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.L. Fenn, his wife of 55 years, Frances Nelson, and brothers Marshall Durwood Nelson, Leroy Nelson, and R.P. Nelson.
Charles is survived by his son Steven Nelson and wife Debbie, daughter Linda Finck and husband David, grandson Matthew Finck, and twin brother Clarence Ewing Nelson.
Matthew Finck, Mark Finck, David Finck, Paul Smith, Johnny Johnson, and John Bandell will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to thank Promise Hospital of Shreveport for the exceptional care they gave to Mr. Nelson during his final days.
