Charlie Shearer, born June 19, 1932, in Marmaduke, Arkansas, passed away after a long life marked by discipline, honor, and faith. Losing his father at just nine months old, Charlie was raised by his mother alongside three sisters and one brother, who became a father figure to him. In 1941, following the attack on Pearl Harbor, Charlie joined the U.S. Air Force. He served in the Air Force from 1949 to 1973, rising from Airman to Chief Master Sergeant and earning multiple medals, including meritorious service awards. His distinguished career reflected his devotion to country and his commitment to excellence.
Beyond his military service, Charlie was deeply involved in the Masonic community. He joined the Scottish Rite in Shreveport, Louisiana, and remarkably completed degrees 4 through 32 in just two weekends and received the 33rd degree after that. He served faithfully in the Shriners, resigning only for health reasons when he was just two positions away from becoming Potentate. His rise through the ranks of both the Air Force and the Masons reflected his discipline, honor, and dedication.
Charlie’s later years were spent at Brookdale Senior Living in Bossier City, Louisiana, where he was a friend to many and served multiple terms as president of the Resident Council. His leadership was instrumental in securing the installation of a generator for the building, a testament to his persistence and advocacy on behalf of others. He will be remembered most for his generosity and steadfast Christian faith, qualities that made him a source of comfort and strength to all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Norma Shearer, his daughter Mary Ann Denmon, and his grandson Rob Shearer. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Betty Shearer; son Robert and wife Sam Shearer; sister Lana Fay Edwards; nieces and nephews Jerry and Sherry Noble, Brenda Maddox and Karoline Gregory; as well as Betty’s nephew and family, David, Stacey, Rachel, and Rebecca Shumate. Charlie’s kindness, integrity, and spiritual strength leave a lasting legacy in the lives of his family, friends, and community.
A visitation for Charles will be held Friday, November 28, 2025, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel, 601 Hwy 80 E, Haughton, Louisiana 71037. The funeral service will be held with Masonic Rites beginning at 2:00 pm. Interment with military honors will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park.
