Cheryl Lynn Matlock, 65, passed away on August 22, 2026. Born January 18, 1961, Cheryl dedicated her life to steady work, faithful service, and the quiet compassion that so often speaks loudest through daily care.
Cheryl was a successful veterinarian and the owner of Bellevue Animal Clinic. Through years of diligent effort and professional devotion, she built a practice defined by attentiveness and genuine concern for the animals entrusted to her. She was also the owner of Ruby Glen Kennels and an AKC breeder of Merit—roles that reflected both her work ethic and the patient, tender commitment she brought to every responsibility.
She was a member of the Shreveport Kennel Club and valued the community she found among fellow dog lovers, friends, and clients. Cheryl’s days were enriched by the many people who cared for her, and she cared for in return. She especially loved spending time with her “dog chicks” Lise', Susan, Margie and Tina, sharing friendship and companionship that brought comfort and joy.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher Downs; her father, Roger Matlock; her mother, Sharon Matlock; and her nephew, Chris Matlock.
She is survived by her brother, Steve Matlock; her best friend, Sheila Cox and Sheila's sons Joe Trojan, and Tommy Trojan; her step-daughter, Courtney Downs Boyd (James); her step-son, Josh Downs (Lauren); and her grandchildren, Brayden Boyd, Ashlyn Boyd, JD Boyd, Lesleigh Downs, and Grayson Downs.
The family extends sincere thanks to all of her staff for their kindness during this time.
A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, September 16th at 9am at Hill Crest Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boxer Rescue of Louisiana.
