David Warren Causey was a man who never met a stranger and never forgot a story. A faithful husband, loving father, adored Pop, and the kind of loyal best friend everyone hopes to find, David passed away suddenly at his home in Haughton, Louisiana, on January 10, 2026.
Born on March 28, 1959, in Homer, Louisiana, David was the son of Brice “Big Daddy” and Peggy Causey. Alongside his brother, Daniel, David grew up with a foundation of faith and a natural athletic talent that would define much of his early life. A standout athlete, he was named a Scholastic Magazine High School All-American in 1977. He carried that drive into his college years, pursuing aviation at Northwestern State University before transferring to Northeast Louisiana University on both athletic and academic scholarships. He graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts, prepared to build a life of service and hard work.
For 43 years, David was a pillar of the team at El Dorado Chemical (now LSB Industries), where he served as a wholesale manager until his retirement in November 2025. His professional accomplishments were many, including serving as a board member for the Louisiana Ag Industry and as a charter member and president of the Haughton Kiwanis. However, David’s true “work” happened on the sidelines of ball fields and in the halls of Cypress Baptist Church. Whether he was coaching Little League, leading Sunday school, or serving as a greeter, David lived his life as an open door, welcoming everyone in with a genuine smile.
In his 45 years of marriage to his beloved Charlotte, David proved that his greatest accomplishment was his family. Together, they built a home centered on the Gospel and raised three children who were his absolute pride and joy. David was the dad who never missed a game and the coach who stayed long after his own kids had grown, just to cheer on the Haughton Buccaneers. In recent years, he found his greatest joy in being “Pop,” throwing his grandkids into the pool during long summer days and grilling for the family he loved so fiercely.
Though he was a man of many hobbies—from the golf course and the ski slopes to his newly discovered weekly bowling group—David’s true passion was people. He had a rare gift for making the world feel smaller and kinder. He didn’t just listen to your story; he remembered it. He was intentional with his love, making sure that every person he encountered left his presence feeling a little lighter and a lot more seen.
Above all his worldly achievements, David was a devoted believer in Jesus Christ. He and Charlotte diligently pointed their children and grandchildren toward the Savior, leaving a legacy that will echo for generations. While his family grieves his sudden absence, they find profound comfort in the promise that they will see him again.
David is preceded in death by his father, Brice Causey, and his mother, Peggy Causey.
He leaves behind his wife and best friend of 45 years, Charlotte Causey; his children and their spouses, Kristen and Will Branton, Rachel and Brent Couvillion, and Cody and Sarah Causey. His legacy lives on in his cherished grandchildren: Camille, Audrey, Carter, Cooper, Cameron, Roman Grace, Solomon, and Samson. He is also survived by his brother, Danny Causey, and his wife, Margaret, along with a host of church family and lifelong friends who will miss his presence every day.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Cypress Baptist Church. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 PM, officiated by Pastor John Fream, also at Cypress Baptist Church, located at 4701 Palmetto Road, Benton, Louisiana 71006.
Following the service, David Warren Causey will be laid to rest at Arlington Cemetery, located at the intersection of Beardsley Street and Owens Street, Homer, Louisiana 71040.
Pallbearers will be Tripp Spivey, Jerry Lee, Rudy Hines, David Grappe, Steve Singletary, J.B. Jarvis, Carl McCormick, and Justin Gough. Honorary Pallbearers are Ronnie Hollis, Kim Gaspard, The men of his beloved Sunday School class.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Samaritan's Purse.
