Doris Jean Smith Clayton, 80, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2019, at Savannah Cottage in Bossier City, LA. Visitation will be Monday, January 21, 2019, at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Cotton Valley, LA, from 1:00-2:00 PM with the service to follow at 2:00 PM. The service will be led by Bro. Kenneth DeHart and Bro. Frank DeLoach. Burial will be at Cotton Valley Cemetery.
Doris was born on August 25, 1938, to Minnie Campbell Smith and Claude W. Smith. She was a retired employee of Webster Parish Schools where she served as the cafeteria manager at Cotton Valley High School for many years.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents, husband Truman Robert Clayton, and son, Russell Wayne Clayton. She is survived by her children Melinda Elliott and husband Paul of Haughton, LA, Charlotte Dean and husband William (Bo) Dean of Cotton Valley, LA, and Robert (Buddy) Clayton and wife Lisa of Heflin, LA, two sisters, Edna Barlow of Minden, LA and Alice Giles of Valley, AL. Doris had 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson all of whom she loved dearly. She had many nieces and nephews, also.
Pallbearers will be Steven Elliott, Nick Parish, Brent Dean, Sam Plants, Sam Plants, Jr., Dustin Clayton, and Matt Zemaitaitis.
Doris’s children would like to thank the caregivers at the Savannah Cottage in Bossier City, LA, where Doris was deeply loved and was referred to as “Mother” for over 10 years.
