Maxine Swan entered rest on March 28, 2022, after a lengthy illness.
Maxine was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and church community member. She graduated from Glenmora High School in Glenmora, Louisiana as salutatorian and was a part of the last graduating class in the state of Louisiana required to only complete 11 grades. Maxine then went on to complete a certificate program at Meadows Draughon Business College in Shreveport, Louisiana. She served as a civil service employee at Barksdale 2nd Air Force Headquarters from 1946-1954 as a secretary eventually working her way up to the executive secretary to the base commander. She has been a resident of Bossier City for the past 54 years and served in various liturgical roles as a member of Barksdale United Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Swan, and parents, Dwight and Corry Chandler.
She is survived by her son, Mark and wife, Anne, of Yukon, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Sara and William Swan of Austin, Texas; sister, Joy Chandler Marshall and nieces, Pam Marshall Timberman and Beverly Marshall Rideout of Colorado.
Visitation will be from 10 – 11 a.m. at Hill Crest Memorial in Haughton. The funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel. Interment will be within the Hill Crest Cemetery. Each will be held Saturday, April 2, 2022. Officiating the service will be Reverend Kendall Docter, Pastor of Barksdale Methodist Church in Bossier City, Louisiana.
We would like to recognize the Bossier City Fire Department, Christus Highland Medical Center, St. Joseph Hospice, and the Carpenter House for their compassionate care during the last several months. We would also like to thank Reverend Kendall Docter, Ann Horne, and all members of the Barksdale Methodist Church for their many visits and prayers.
