A funeral service was held for Doris Ann Timko Pitman in the chapel of Hill Crest Funeral Home in Haughton, LA on Friday, September 17, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. Doris passed away on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010, at the age of 84. Deacon Homer Tucker of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church officiated.
Doris was born April 25, 1926, in Virden, Illinois, to Anna and Paul Timko and graduated from Virden High School. She was very proud of her service as a statistical typist for the United States Army during World War II. Following the war, she married her husband of 43 years, Alva Pitman, and spent the rest of her life as a devoted wife and mother.
She lived for many years in Haughton, LA. After the death of her husband, she moved to DeRidder, LA. Recently, she returned to Shreveport and resided at Live Oak Retirement Center.
Doris is survived by her children Anita Thibodeaux and husband Charest of DeRidder, LA; Lois Herrin of Dallas, TX; Marlene Aversa and husband Richard of Concord, NC; Judge Michael Pitman and wife Judge Frances Pitman of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren Emily Beller and husband Brent of Omaha, NE; Aimee Herrin of Dallas, TX; Paul Thibodeaux and wife Annie of New Orleans, LA; and Julianne Thibodeaux of New York, NY; great granddaughters, Adeline and Harper Beller, and Frances and Camille Renda; and a brother, Paul Timko and wife Irene, of Roanoke, VA.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Live Oak, especially to Brandon Loschen, LPN, Melinda Baker, RN, and Sharon Green for the warm and loving care given their mother during her stay there. They are also very grateful to Dr. Germain Cassiere and Dr. John J. Ferrell for their compassionate care.
