Dorothy Lucile West, born on May 28, 1921 in Pontiac, Illinois, to William P. and Mabel Rose McCaskey Campbell, passed away on February 20, 2021 at her home in Bossier City, Louisiana. Dorothy went to Pontiac High School and graduated with the class of 1939. She worked in a hospital as an Orderly after high school.
She joined the Army in 1945 as a Medical Technician and switched to the Air Force in 1947. She married Willie Mack West at the Barksdale Air Force Base Chapel on January 10, 1947. They remained married for 62 years. Mrs. West moved back to Bossier City in 1959 where she worked for McCary's Jewelers for many years.
Dorothy was a member of Stockwell Road Missionary Church for 52 years and was their secretary for 40 years. She enjoyed crocheting, was a avid reader, and was a great shopper. She loved to walk in the mall and made the most wonderful cakes.
Mrs. West joins in death: her parents; husband, Willie West; sons, Donald Stratton and James West; five sisters and one brother.
Left to cherish her memory are: her children Mardi Cooper and Vickie West of Bossier City, LA, Richard and Debie West of Wylie Texas, and Cindy Drott of Houma, LA; grandchildren Vickie Cooper, Kyle Cooper, Lauren (Mark) Warren, Stephanie West, Jimmy (Missy) Stratton, Sue Ann (Buddy) Skinner, Sherri Rios, Eddie (Michaele) Stratton; 23 great grandchildren; and 16 great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers for Mrs. West will be Billy Tollison, Jimmy Brown, Ray Wilkes, Greg Fielding, Richard West, great-grandsons James Almond, and Wyatt West. Honorary pallbearer, for Mrs. West, will be Wayne Gordon.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Regional Hospice Nurse Shari and Aid, Georgia, and daughter, Vickie West for all the special care they gave to her. They would also like to thank her wonderful friends Sue Gordon and Brenda Woodard for all the phone calls and visits. Thanks to her beautician Janet Johnson for coming, to keep her beautiful.
Services for Mrs. West will begin with a Visitation from 1 - 2 pm, followed by the Funeral, with Brother Nathan Luellan, presiding at 2:00 pm, Friday, February 26, 2021 within the Mausoleum Chapel at Hill Crest Memorial, Haughton, LA.
