After many years as a car hauler for Complete and Jack Cooper Transport, Douglas retired in May 1996. He was a longtime member of Teamsters Local 568.
Douglas found great joy in camping, boating, attending church at Cypress Baptist, working on his cherished Model A, "Mabeline," spending time with family, especially his grandchildren, and lending a helping hand to his neighbors. He also enjoyed the Brotherhood of his fellow Truckers.
Douglas is survived by his sister, Marie Adams; daughters, Cindy Selmer (John) and Debbie Jayroe (Steve), five grandchildren, Cory Jayroe (Lacey), Nathan Jayroe (Janice), Ashley Hotard (Shawn), Lindsey Chandler (Kyle), and Nathan Selmer; nine great grandchildren, Lillie Mae McGee, Daniel Jayroe, Jack Jayroe, Corrigan Jayroe, Greyson Morgan, Brock Hotard, Rhett Chandler, Kyle Steven Chandler, and Michael Brock III.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Duty; mother, Lois Duty; father, Oliver M. Duty, Sr., and brother, Oliver M. Duty, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Jayroe, Cory Jayroe, Shawn Hotard, Kyle Chandler, Daniel Jayroe, Corrigan Jayroe, Jack Jayroe, Greyson Morgan.
A visitation for Douglas will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home & Park, 601 Highway 80 East, Haughton, Louisiana 71037, on July 30, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A Chapel Service will follow at the same location on July 30, 2026, beginning at 2:00 pm.
