Edsel "Eddie" Lee Cate, Jr. went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 13, 2019. He was a 22 year veteran of the United States Air Force, as well as a computer tech. for NCR and Dell. He was a Sunday school teacher for 40 years and loved the Lord and the churches he attended. He loved watching the boys he taught grow into mature young men who love the Lord, raise their children in godly homes and are leaders in their churches. He enjoyed playing softball, golfing and building things in and for the house. But, his greatest pleasure was spending time with his boys, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Edsel Lee Cate, Sr. and Frances Linnis Baldwin Dykes. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Linda Marie (Allison) Cate; his sons, Michael Christopher Cate with wife Kristin and Matthew Russell Cate with wife Whitney; one brother, James Cate; grandchildren, Kimberly Wright with husband Brian, Elijah Cate, Grady Cate, Carter Cate, Dylan Cate, Drew Cate and Allison Cate; one great grandchild, Loralai Wright; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and dear friends. Dr. Randy Harper will be conducting a Celebration of Life Service at Bellaire Baptist Church starting at 2 PM, Saturday, August 17, 2019, with a visitation from 1 PM to 2 PM prior to the service. Graveside committal service with military honors will follow the service at Hill Crest Memorial Park. The USAF Honor guard will serve as pallbearers for Saturday’s service. His 7 grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Association of Louisiana (at alz.org/walk) or the Gideon’s International.

The family also wishes to say a very special thankyou to the staffs of Savannah Grand and St. Joseph’s Hospice, and one very special caregiver, Gwen McMillon.

Linda, Mike, Matt & Family my prayers are with you. Eddie was a very kind and compassionate man. He always had a big smile and a hug! We all have had many fun times and lots of laughs over the years! One of my greatest memories was about two months ago when I stayed with him one day during his lunch time at Savannah Grand. He allowed me to give him his lunch graciously and we sat there and I talked and he just laughed and laughed. God allowed me to experience those few hours with my ‘ole friend Eddie’ one last time as I’ve always known him. Heaven has gained a great man and he will be missed! I love you Linda!

I have lost my oldest and dearest friend. I met Eddie in 1964, while we were stationed at Dyess AFB, TX. We worked in the same shop, became instant friends and life began.
From there we became brother-in-laws (brothers) when we dated and married the sisters, Linda and Suzanne Allison. Happy days when Eddie and I became Uncles to each others children's.
For 55 years we grew together, always stayed close, and shared our love of family and faith. My brother was a remarkable man in every way. A man who was always there for you, never wavered and loved the Lord.
Circumstances keep Sue and I at home in Colorado during this time. Our love and prayers are constant for our sister Linda, Mike, Matt and each of our nieces and nephews.

Eddie is my Uncle. I was blessed to have a close, and wonderful relationship with him. He was so warm, kind and had a laugh that was contagious.
He was such a man of faith, and he shared and lived his love of God with many.
He holds a very special place in my heart. I will miss him singing “Angel Baby” to me. I will miss the annual birthday calls to hear Aunt Lin and Uncle Eddie singing in harmony the “Happy Birthday” song. It was the best part of your day.
So many memories, all sweet and fun. I am a truly blessed niece who will always be grateful to have been blessed with the love of my Uncle Eddie. Missed and loved.

I can’t recall a time when Mr. Ed would not greet me without a smile and a hug. A genuinely sweet and caring man. What a great example he set for his family. We love y’all!
