Elaine McCormack

Charlie "Elaine" McCormack was born in Shreveport, La. on October 20, 1934, to Charlie Graham and Alice Corine Bailiff Graham. She was the youngest of five children: Gladis, LaFay, Emma Dell, Marion "Buddy," and a baby (stillborn). Elaine was the first child born in the hospital (Schumpert Hospital, Shreveport, LA), and her oldest sister was her nurse when she was born.

They were living in Jamestown, LA. when she was born, and she lived on a farm. They sold the farm and moved to Ringgold, LA. when Elaine was in the sixth grade and lived on the school grounds.

Elaine married her sweetheart, Jack McCormack, on April 4, 1953. They were married forty-six years before Jack went home to be with the Lord. Elaine married Jack while he was in the Navy and was a "Navy bride" waiting for him to return from Korea for the first eighteen months of marriage. While she waited, she went to business school.

She was able to work as a secretary for the Dean of Education at both Northwestern University and Northeast Louisiana University. When Jack returned from the Navy and began pursuing his pharmacy career path; Elaine also worked.

They eventually settled in Bossier City, LA., and Elaine worked as a homemaker, a PTA mom, a band booster; she was also involved in community events. Elaine was faithful to the Sunday School/church and made sure the family attended all services at the church each week.

Elaine was a loving and devoted mother to her two children: Pam Hubbard (whose children are Charlotte and Corey) and Susan Willadsen (whose children are Jeremiah, Carmen, Benard (Bear). She was blessed with five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren: Jaycee, Jacon, Aulene, Graham, Addison, Grayson, Dylan, Penelope, Wyatt, Gavin, and Lincoln.

In 1985, Elaine and Jack moved from Bossier City to Little Rock, Arkansas. Jack worked as a professor in the Pharmacy department at University of Arkansas Medical Center. Elaine was active in the community, church, and visiting with family and friends. In 2010, Elaine moved to Pearland, Texas and was very active in Prime Time Singers for over ten years, during which she enjoyed performing at nursing homes and other church events. She was able to go and watch sporting events for her great grandchildren and dance recitals until May of this year. Elaine participated in “Gathering Place,” a program which helps people with Alzheimer’s enjoy activities like art class, which she helped her win first prize at the County Fair!

After her most recent stay in the hospital, she was able to return home with the help of Hospice services. She passed on to be with the Lord her Savior on Tuesday morning. Thank you all for the love and support you have given to us by remembering her. Since we were raised in Bossier City, we have always called that our hometown; now, we are bringing her back home to Louisiana.

The family will receive friends Saturday, August 15th from 1 until 2 pm at the chapel of Hill Crest Funeral Home in Haughton, LA. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2 pm following the visitation. Burial will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park.
