

Elbert Lamar Mitchell, 85, passed away on June 12, 2026. Born on January 20, 1941, Elbert grew up in Navasota, Texas, a place that remained close to the story of his life. He was a beloved and cherished presence to those who called him family and friend, remembered especially for his loving spirit, generous heart and unwavering reliability.
Elbert built his working life in commercial construction, a field that reflected his practical skill and commitment to honest effort. In the rhythms of daily life, he also carried a deep interest in the stock market. Yet some of his most meaningful moments were found closer to home, where he loved and enjoyed helping his step- daughter, Monica, with every project she could find to do – offering time, patience and the kind of support that is never forgotten. After marrying Tommye he lovingly welcomed Monica and grandchildren and cherished them as his own. Jake Cook, Sara Beth Einerson, Gray Cook and Emily Clair Jones. Elbert attended Benton Methodist Church, Benton, Louisiana, where faith and community provided a familiar foundation. He was married to Tommye Hodge, and together they spent a wonderful 13 years, marked by devotion and the simple strength of shared life.
Elbert is survived by his wife, Tommye; stepdaughter Monica Gray (Jay); brother, Thomas Mitchell (Mary Ann); sisters Janie M. Turner and Laverne Johnson (Jerry) sister-in-law Laveta Mitchell; nieces Nancy (Kenny) Wise, Gayle (Paul) Marquez, Paula (Oren) Aden remembered by their mother, Mary Mitchell. Beth (Rob) Glenn, Sarah (Jeff) J Bogar, Jenny J (Sean) Vostatek; nephews Dane Turner, Michael B (Patricia) Mitchell, Steven T. Mitchell.
He is preceded in death by his parents, E.L. Mitchell and Lillian Pearl Thomas Mitchell; brother Wayne Mitchell; nephew Douglas and best friend Diana McCauley.
Visitation will be held June 27, 2026 at 9:30 AM at Nobles Funeral Home, 402 E. Blackshear Street, Navasota Texas with services at 10AM. Burial to follow at Field Store Cemetery
In honor of Elbert, serving as Pallbearers will be Jerry Johnson, Dane Turner, Steven Mitchell, Michael Mitchell, Jay Cook, Jake Cook and Gray Cook.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in memory of Elbert.
