Elsie Merle Halford Quinn

November 9, 1933 – January 4, 2025

Elsie Halford Quinn, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 4, 2025, in Bossier City, Louisiana.

Elsie was born on November 9, 1933, in Franklin County, Mississippi. She spent her childhood in Mississippi and after graduating from high school, she attended Copiah-Lincoln Junior College, earning her associate degree. Elsie then completed an internship in medical technology at the T.E. Schumpert Memorial Sanitarium in Shreveport, Louisiana. While training at Schumpert, she met a young airman, William “Bill” Quinn, on a blind date. In February of 1955, she married Bill at the chapel on Barksdale Air Force Base. They quickly started a family and had four daughters in the span of five years. Elsie and Bill remained married for 68 wonderful years.

Elsie was an Air Force wife. She and her family lived in several states, including Louisiana, Mississippi, Maine, and New Mexico. Elsie worked in doctor’s offices until her retirement when she was in her seventies. Elsie especially loved working with Dr. Edwin Dilworth, Dr. William King, and Dr. Edwin Byrd in their OB/GYN practices. Elsie loved babies and taking care of them, and this love continued through the birth of her great-grandchildren. She also loved animals. Elsie had many special animal companions throughout her life, including her beloved Yorkie, Mary Alice. Elsie was a true southern belle; she enjoyed fashion and never missed a hair or nail appointment. She also embodied the spirit of southern hospitality through her excellent cooking, baking, and hostess skills.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Larry Webster “Pete” Halford and Lela Amelia Smith Halford, her husband, William Joseph Quinn, her brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Sarah Pearl Halford, her sister, Norabeth Halford, her brother-in-law, Thomas Luckett, her brother-in-law, Thomas Quinn, her sister-in-law, Kathryn Quinn, and one great-grandchild, Drake Henry Richter. She is survived by her four daughters, Sharon Quinn Shores, and husband Wylie, Theresa Rene Quinn, Patricia Quinn Richter, and husband Henry, and Jacquelyn Quinn Kennedy, her sister, Erma Luckett, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, Kelsey Quinn Richter, Jacquelyn Amelia Kennedy Craft, and husband Spencer (Shelton), Ann Rene Shores Hankins, and husband David (George & John), Harlan Quinn Richter and Megan Waggoner (Layton, Cameryn & Carson), and Edward Quinn Kennedy, brother-in-law, Martin Quinn and sister-in-law, Barbara Quinn. She was also a favorite aunt to many nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service for the family will take place at a later date.

The family would like to thank Cypress Point Nursing & Rehabilitation for their compassionate care of our mother during her illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2565 Airline Drive, Bossier City, Louisiana, or the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana.
