Evelyn Ann (Nan) Davenport Chance was born on February 13, 1928 to Asa Evan Davenport and Nora Leanne Davenport in Ferriday, LA and went to her eternal home on December 12, 2020 in Bossier City, LA.

Nan, also affectionately known as Nana, was reared by her sister Velma Coker Dumas and husband John Henry Dumas and moved to Bossier City in 1941. She graduated from Bossier High School in 1945 where she was a School Beauty, Homecoming Queen and graduated with honors. After graduation, Nan worked at Bossier Bank and married Edward W Chance Jr. on June 22, 1949. Nan and Ed were married 60 years until his death in 2009.

Everyone who knew her, knew she was a classic southern lady who loved hosting family gatherings. Her home was a refuge to all who entered and no matter when you showed up to Nana’s house, she had a delicious meal, a fresh pot of coffee and a piece of her famous pound cake waiting. Nana was kind, witty, graceful and resilient and in her final days she reminded us all that she was a true Steel Magnolia.

Nan is survived by her children Lisa Chance of Baton Rouge, Edward Chance III and wife Nanci of Bossier City, John Chance and wife Kate of Shreveport; grandchildren Tiffany Snell Knapp, Jay Snell, Chelsey Chance Weatherly, Brady Chance, Jordan Chance Kerr; and seven, soon to be eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jay Snell, Brady Chance, Eric Weatherly, Logan Kerr, Ben Knapp, Chance Snell and Cole Snell. The family wishes to thank America Martin, Heritage Manor Bossier City, and 3 North Wing of WKB. Special thanks to her nurse Jamie Davenport for her compassion during Nana’s final days.
