Frederick Dallas Lawhead, Jr., TSgt. USAF (Ret.) passed away peacefully, at the age of 84, surrounded by loved ones on October 31st, 2020. Services for Fred will be held November 7, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hillcrest Memorial Chapel in Haughton, LA with Pastor Megan Twyman officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held before service time beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Fred was born in Jacksonville, Florida on February 13, 1936 to Frederick and Helen Lawhead. Fred was an honored Air Force veteran who served his country for over 21 years and eventually settled near Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City. After retiring from the Air Force, he went on to work for AT&T in the Shreveport plant as an electronic technician. He worked there for 18 years and retired in 2001.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Helen Lawhead. He is survived by his wife Debra, the love of his life for 35 years; children, Terry Lawhead and wife Mitzie of Hattiesburg, MS, Richard Lawhead and wife Kim of Plano, TX, John Lawhead and wife Shannon of Austin, TX, Amy Smith and husband Eric of Bossier City, LA; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Katelyn, Douglas, Jason, Ashley, Jacob, Eric, Olivia, Addison, Everett, and Cooper; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Fred will be remembered by his family and friends as a loving, strong man with a kind heart that would do anything for his loved ones. He had an unforgettable laugh and a quick sense of humor. Fred’s favorite pastimes included fishing with friends and family, listening to classic country music, and watching sports. Fred always shared stories of his sons’ and daughter’s accomplishments with a huge smile on his face. He was most proud of his grandchildren that fulfilled his late years, and of course his fur children, Pudgie and Doodle.
The family would like to thank Dr. Melanie Frederick and Dr. Anil Chhabra and their staffs for the amazing care they’ve given to Fred over the years. Fred will be dearly missed as a loving father and husband, a doting “Pa”, an amazing uncle, brother-in-law, son-in-law, and a one of a kind friend.
