Mrs. Greta Mae Soumas

Greta Mae McCaleb Soumas. ~ Daughter of the late Rev. Dr. Murphy W. McCaleb and the late Thelma C. M. Kidd, born in New Orleans , Louisiana July 20, 1936 at Charity Hospital. Educated in the New Orleans Public School system, she graduated from Booker T. Washington High School / Class of 1954. She married her “childhood sweetheart”, the late Clyde Adolph Soumas, Sr. on July 10, 1954 at Progressive Baptist Church. To their union 4 children were born, Panderina D. Soumas, Clyde A. Soumas, Jr. (wife Teri Soumas), Karen A. Soumas -) and Donavon P. Soumas. The family foundation of their children branched the next generation of 7 Grandchildren: Damon L. Soumas (wife~ Ces Verzosa-Soumas), Rahsann L. Soumas (wife~ Akima Shoy-Soumas), Clyde A. Soumas III, Anthony M. Soumas, (wife Jenna Cleghorn-Soumas) Tiffani J. Lewis, Nicole A. Lewis and Christopher D. Lewis. The celebration of life & love continued to branch with 9 Great-grandchildren: Sean M. Soumas, , Ajinkya R. Soumas, Rasheed A. Soumas, Kennedy S. Soumas, Benjamin M. Soumas, Olivia M. Soumas, Dominic S. Soumas, Rowan M. Soumas and Lana R. Soumas.

Greta Mae McCaleb Soumas retired from Northwest State School after 22 years of employment. She was a faithful, active member of the Galilee Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana over 30 years where she served diligently in the choir and many worthy auxiliaries. She was a devoted, loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She was a sincere friend to many.

She leaves to cherish her celebration of love and life; her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her devoted dear friend, Gladys P. Henderson, and dedicated and loving cousin, Fannie M. Higgins. Greta M. McCaleb-Soumas is preceded in death by her late husband, (of 62 years) Clyde A. Soumas, Sr., and one Brother, Robert McCaleb. She will be GREATLY missed and LOVED by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many…many dear friends.

Celebration of Life services will be held at Galilee Baptist Church, 1500 Pierre Avenue, Shreveport, Louisiana 10 AM on Saturday, May 13, 2017 with Reverend Verene’ Henderson, Officiating.

Serving as pallbearers for the service are Clyde A. Soumas, Jr., Donavon P. Soumas, Damon L. Soumas, Sean M. Soumas, Rahsann L. Soumas, Clyde A. Soumas, III, Anthony M. Soumas and Christopher D. Lewis. Honorary pallbearers include Romeo D. Brown, Jerry Davenport, Irving Harding, Wali Muhammad and James Shabazz.
