

BOSSIER CITY, LA – On April 16, 2015, Hilmon Ray Mitchell, 90, a Godly man, left this physical earth to meet his Lord and Savior. Hilmon was an excellent example of a good husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Hilmon was born March 20, 1925, and passed away peacefully on April 16, 2015. A celebration of a long life lived will be held at Hill Crest Memorial with a visitation for friends and family from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2015, followed by a service to be held at Cypress Baptist Church Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2015.
Officiating the service will be longtime family friend, Rev. Billy Pierce. Hilmon will be laid to rest next to the love of his life, Beth Mitchell, at Lay Cemetery adjacent to Red River Baptist Church/Linton Road Benton.
Hilmon was born in Stamps, Arkansas. Hilmon later served his country for two years as a Seaman First Class in the United States Navy. He met and later married Virginia Beth Mitchell on Nov. 23, 1956. Hilmon worked in sales at Superior Iron works for 25 years. After retirement he was a Bailiff for the Bossier Parish Court System for 10 years. Hilmon was a Charter member of Cypress Baptist Church and served as a deacon for over 50 years. He was dedicated and instrumental in the growth of the church. He worked tirelessly in the development of the Sunday school program serving as the Sunday School Superintendent for 21 years.
Hilmon was preceded in death by parents, Jefferson and Maude Mitchell; wife, Virginia Beth Mitchell; four sisters and three brothers; and survived by brother, Dale Mitchell and wife Janie; son, Hilmon Ray Mitchell, Jr. and wife Donna; daughter, Kim Mitchell Hauser and husband Robert; grandchildren, Rachel Mitchell, Leigh Ann, Lacey, and Logan Hauser, and numerous special nieces and nephews.
Hilmon’s leisure activities included hunting, fishing and tending to his garden.
Pallbearers are Bill Duckworth, Bobby Edminston, Logan Hauser, John Bundy, Price Bundy, and Trent Teague. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Cantrel, Billy Tom Johnston, and Vol Dooley, Jr., although he is in Heaven.
The family would like to extend special thanks to: Dr. Ted Warren, Nurse Tonya Ferguson and staff, Harmony Life Hospice, especially Pam McKinney and Sarah Boswell, caregivers Betty McIntyre, Mary Gines, Felicia Tyler, and Mary Fletcher.
